About Gabriel Poliquin

Prior to starting his own practice, Gabriel Poliquin worked for a national law firm and for renowned litigation boutiques in Ottawa, Ontario.

Gabriel Poliquin focuses his legal practice on all aspects of civil and commercial litigation, but with a special focus on public law, including proceedings involving government entities and language rights. Mr. Poliquin is a trained mediator and offers alternative dispute resolution services in civil and commercial matters, in addition to performing workplace investigations.

In 2022-2023, Mr. Poliquin was senior counsel to the Public Order Emergency Commission (POEC). Under the direction of Justice Paul Rouleau, the POEC was tasked with inquiring into the circumstances that led the federal government to declare a national public order emergency in February 2022.

Since 2018, Mr. Poliquin has lectured at the University of Ottawa on private international law in the French common law and bijuridical programmes.

Mr. Poliquin previously served as a law clerk to the Honourable Louis LeBel of the Supreme Court of Canada. During his law studies, he received the Hélène-Laporte Award of Excellence for French-Language Legal Drafting, as well as the Osgoode Society Prize for Canadian Legal History.

Mr. Poliquin is the author of several peer-reviewed publications and a frequent contributor to the press. A list of his publications and media appearances can be found here.

Before pursuing a career in law, Mr. Poliquin was a professor of linguistics and cognitive science at the University of Delaware, having obtained his Ph.D. in linguistics at Harvard University. Mr. Poliquin is the author of a doctoral dissertation in phonology, which proposes a theory of Canadian French vowel harmony.
